These two homes on Second Street have been known as the Jackson House and the Gurney House.
Albert H. Jackson, for whom Post No. 299 of the G.A.R. of Cooperstown was named, was killed in action and Margaret (aka Abigail) held the family together. Their children were: John, a Civil War veteran who moved to Forest County; Julia who married Samuel Whitman; Fannie who married Henry Hoffman; Ellen who married Rod Reynolds; Louise who married John Gurney; Harriet who married David E. Hood and Homer who married Mary McIntosh. Margaret died in 1891 and the home was taken over by her son, Homer and family.

The Gurney House was built by John Gurney on part of the Jackson lot. Mr. Gurney, a Civil War Veteran, worked in the local oil fields. John and Louise Jackson Gurney were the parents of Margaret, Elizabeth, Carl and Cleo.
